Consider. Communicate. Connect.
Hearing loss is the fourth leading cause of years lived with disability worldwide, surpassing notable chronic diseases such as diabetes, dementia, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disorder.1,2 Although disabling hearing loss affects 6.8% of the world’s population, an alarmingly high unmet need exists in bridging the gap in access to resources and programs that assist Deaf individuals in daily living. American Sign Language (ASL) was designed to allow individuals with hearing loss to communicate and express thoughts and feelings more easily. However, ASL is not currently integrated into standard educational curricula, resulting in those with disabling hearing loss having a greater risk of experience feelings of isolation and withdrawing from society.
This website was created to provide resources and assistance to those with and without disabling hearing loss. Learn more about the latest statistics surrounding Deafness in the United States and be among the first to contribute to the ASL machine learning project that will ultimately allow seamless communication between the Deaf community and society as a whole.
